Early Childhood Academy PCS
Sports Teams Guidelines and Procedures
Early Childhood Academy PCS is committed to providing quality academic and social experiences for our students. We understand the need for students to participate in various sports and extracurricular club activities. Participating in these activities enhances students’ physical, mental and social awareness, and is an essential part of their overall well-being. Participating in sports and clubs builds teamwork, sportsmanship and provides valuable life skills.
Consistent attendance allows for steady academic and social skill development. Students that come to school regularly and on time tend to have higher academic grades and lower dropout rates. Sports and extracurricular opportunities help build strong relationships and teaches responsibility.
The following guidelines and procedures must be adhered to for any student at ECA to participate in a sports and/or club.
Attendance
- Students must attend school regularly and on time. If a student has three unexcused absences in an academic quarter, they are ineligible to participate in a sport or club. The student will be removed if it occurs during the club session.
- Students cannot participate in a sport or club if he/she is absent that day. i.e. If the student has a morning doctor’s appointment, they must return to school by 11:30am to participate that day.
- Students must attend scheduled practices and club sessions to participate in the game or activity.
Classwork:
- Students must participate regularly during class and turn in required classwork and homework.
- Students must participate in all scheduled assessments and testing.
Behavior:
- Students must display positive behaviors that maintain a safe and communal environment.
- Students must refrain from physical and verbal aggression towards classmates or staff.
Consequences:
Students can receive a referral form for chronic absenteeism, refusal to do classwork or behavioral issues. Parents will be notified of each referral their child receives. The consequence a student can receive depends on the severity of the issue or concern. The goal of the referral process is not to be punitive, but rather preventative. Below are the guidelines for the referral process.
- One referral will result in a conference with the student and a verbal reminder of the rules.
- Two referrals can result in a student being suspended from the team or club for a designated time.
- Three referrals can result in the student being removed for the team or club.
